Mekong Delta in Flood Season Mekong Delta in Flood Season. Flooding is a way of life along the lower Mekong River in Vietnam and Cambodia. Every year between August and November, monsoon rains fill the rivers of Southeast Asia, and the Mekong River Delta broadens well past its dry season levels. People in the Mekong Delta are busy catching aquatic products when water from the upper Mekong River floods. This year flooding has come earlier than usual and is rising higher, turning rice fields into big ponds. According to the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Centre, the water level is currently 2.33 meters at Tân Châu station at the Tiền River and 1.95 meters at Châu Đốc station at the Hậu River, 0.2-0.3 meters higher than the same period last year.
